Nucor Grating is growing and we are seeking to hire an Environmental, Health, and Safety Coordinator to join our team in Bourbonnais, IL. We offer competitive compensation and excellent benefits.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide vision and support for Beyond Zero safety culture and for the work place safety of self and others; is knowledgeable of and consistently follows accepted safety practices.
  • Able to communicate the importance of a safe work environment and remaining safe in all areas of the plant.
  • Assist the operations team in the implementation of the EHS program.
  • Assist in the updating of the safety manual, Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) and relevant documentation.
  • Provide the necessary support to ensure team members are able to work successfully and safely.
  • Ensure proper documentation, record keeping and statistics upkeep.
  • Mentor teams in regards to essential proactive safety skills and effective hazard assessment and management.
  • Conduct proactive safety activities, including inspections, observations and training/education on all sites and locations as needed.
  • Oversee the local Emergency Response Plan (ERP) program, conducting drills, assessing effectiveness.
  • Advise on EHS regulatory requirements and any relevant changes.
  • Assist as required in upkeep of statistics and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Assist with on-site orientations for employees and contractors.
  • Ensure knowledge of company and site policies, standards and guidelines.
  • Identify training needs and requirements, support coordination of training activities.
  • Develop leaders in administering safety programs and compliance while promoting cultural growth.
  • Identify, develop and audit applicable facility required contractor safety programs and work practices.
  • Work with outside auditors and governmental inspectors as appropriate or as directed including managing reporting requirements.
  • Promotes environmental stewardship while maintaining compliance in all areas of the site through conformance with our environmental program.
  • Lead incident investigations along with leadership and supervisors and ensure proper documentation and reporting as well as conduct follow-up and ensure corrective actions are completed when required.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (e.g. 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone …etc.) sessions.
  • Assist in the Quality Management System providing investigative support and utilizing communication resources.
  • Manage Quality Control Personnel in the plant.
  • Ensure the ISO 9001 program is implemented and followed.
  • Promote the Quality Culture throughout Nucor Grating.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in safety systems.

PREFERENCES:

  • Strong commitment to Safety in all job aspects.
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline preferred or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Background in computer use with skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to travel to jobsites when required.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, leadership, coaching, mentoring, delegation and people management skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and able to work effectively in a team.
