American Buildings Company a division of Nucor, the nation’s largest steel and steel products manufacturer and largest recycler is seeking to hire production machine operators to cut, form, punch steel parts in our pre-engineered steel buildings production facility in La Crosse, VA. We are looking for dedicated teammates that will help to promote the company’s mission statement to take care of our customers, make safety their priority and work in a drug-free environment.


  • Follow all prescribed safety rules and environmental regulations maintain a clean work area and maintain quality standards of product.
  • Operation of various computerized and mechanical metal forming equipment for light and medium gauge coiled and flat steel.
  • Operation of overhead cranes, jib cranes, conveyors, de-coilers, straighteners, shears and stacker equipment.
  • Bundle orders for shipment assuring accuracy of order, items and move material using forklifts, skids, material moving attachments, labelers, banding equipment. May require the building of wooden crates for packaging materials to assure product quality.
  • Utilize common hand and power tools along with measuring instruments such as tape, square, protractor and micrometer and perform mathematical calculations based on the readings obtained regarding length, width, angle and radius.
  • Understanding of 2-Dimensional part drawings used to communicate material and part specifications.
  • Work from schedules, work orders, prints, job tallies, verbal and/or written instructions to perform duties.
  • Management of inventory and selection of proper materials and finishes to be used as called out on job orders.
  • Communicate with alternate shift to develop plan for optimum material runs to best utilize equipment, time and resources minimizing scrap between the shifts.
  • Monitor consumables inventory communicate the need to order additional if necessary.
  • Maintain necessary production, inventory and quality records, detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to leadership.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to equipment; assist Maintenance Crews on major repairs.
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.

Job Requirements


  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent.
  • One (1) year work experience in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Previous machine operation in manufacturing.


  • Previous experience utilizing computers in a production environment.
  • Previous experience in a similar position
