American Buildings Company, a division of Nucor Corporation, the nation’s largest steel and steel products manufacturer and largest recycler is seeking to hire Web Seam Operators for our Structural Department in our pre-engineered steel buildings production facility in La Crosse, VA. This position is responsible for operating a web seam welding machine to high quality standards while working safely and efficiently.  Candidates must have ability to be qualified to AWS Certification D1.1 through our in plant processes within the first 30 days of employment. We are looking for dedicated teammates that will help to promote the company’s mission statement to take care of our customers, make safety their priority and work in a drug-free environment.


  • Perform various fit up and tacking operations on a variety of structural assemblies.
  • Will use clamps, jigs, tape, square, control panels and be able to fully understand print dimensions.
  • Climb 10’ ladder to fill 781 flux bins.
  • Operate overhead 5 ton crane. Certification needs to be completed within 30 days.
  • Use vacuum lifts and magnets to transfer webs.
  • Will maintain necessary records, detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Will maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Must follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain quality standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to equipment; assist Maintenance Crews on major repairs.
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.

Job Requirements


  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read tape measurements to 1/16th of an inch and apply measurements to shop drawings.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have ability to be qualified to AWS within 30 days & Canadian welding certification within 60 days.


  • Welding Certificate from a vocational or technical school or 1 year of welding experience.
